I have used so many tools for daily reading. I have had baskets full of notebooks, pens, devotions, and fancy new Bibles. Over the years I have learned to simplify, a prayer journal, my Bible and a black pen are now all I use. Keeping it simple has revolutionized my time in the Word each morning. I am using the Everyday Gospel Bible and soaking in the goodness in a simple way each morning.

This fits my Word of the year in my determination. One place of determination is to finish, the entirety of the Bible in 2025. It is a goal I have had many years in a row and I get distracted or I get stuck. I spend more time trying to dig deep, when my morning time is simply for restful reading of the Word. There is a place and time for deep study but I am finding in my slow mornings when I am pursuing peace, and rest in the Word, it requires simplicity.

As I reflect on 2024, I learned more than I thought. It challenge me more than I expected, and has left me determined to move forward.
